n the colonial Mohawk Valley, dairy was a staple of everyday diets for people across the social spectrum. Whether it was butter, cheese, or cream—all were utilized in some of the most decadent Georgian cuisines while also serving as a standard ration for soldiers, laborers, and travelers alike.
𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥 for a chance to explore this very topic through a variety of living history programs.
From 𝟏𝟏𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝟒𝐩𝐦, living-historians Rachel Stewart, Erin Czernecki, and Mae Hailu will offer ongoing demonstrations featuring 18th century cheesemaking, butter churning, and ice cream production. Explore the historic site, learn more about the complex global importance of 18th century dairy, and enjoy free samples of ice cream and more throughout the day.
